Sam Brannan has a strong Fine Arts Department which offers a variety of introductory art lessons from advertising to ceramics. Student works are very visible on campus through displays in our student gallery and in the community at large. Art students participate in competitions such as the Sacramento Bee's "Design an Ad" and Kaiser Permanente's "Don't Buy The Lie" Billboard Design Contest.
Fine Art is included in the 7th grade Electives Exploratory Wheel. The class is a quarter long (approximately 10 weeks), and is taught by our two art teachers on the faculty. The curriculum exposes students to a variety of art experiences including drawing, painting, cartooning, design, and three dimensional art. Lessons are "hands on" and incorporate art history and multicultural themes.
The 8th grade curriculum continues to explore the basic concepts introduced in the 7th grade. Classes are a semester long (approximately 20 weeks) to allow for in depth study and the expansion of art concepts. Scholastic Art magazine is offered to expand the study of art styles and history. Lessons include a variety of materials and experiences including drawing, design, painting and ceramics.
Our teachers believe that something really happens in a quality art class, the students are learning...
